Ice fishing season is here!

The open season is done for the year. We are excited to get out on the hard water for some ice fishing!

We spend a lot of time fishing Wabamun Lake for big ole jackfish. Ice fishing for these big old gators is exciting and action packed!

Get the whole family out for a day on the hard water. Ice fishing is an inexpensive way to get everyone out fishing. The Edmonton area offers plenty of fantastic fishing in the winter months.

Absolutely beautiful out for this time of year

Young Brock and a great fall Walleye.

Young Brock and a great fall Walleye.

Well, what can I say. It's November 6th and it's absolutely beautiful out for this time of year.

We are done guiding for the season, but I got the chance to get out with my son and target some nice fall Walleyes!  With the air temperatures in the the double digits, the water temperatures are staying favourable for fishing this late in the open water season. With plenty of bites throughout the day, one cannot complain. It appears like the weather is going to hang in there for another week, so grab your gear and capitalize on this gorgeous extended open water season here in Alberta!

Cool weather sturgeon fishing

Cool weather sturgeon fishing.

Cool weather sturgeon fishing.

Well this was our last fishing trip of the season, and it was cold to say the least.  Justin and his Father not only braved the cool temperatures for a day of fishing.  They camped over night on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River in our outfitter tent and got two days of fishing in.  Our first morning started slow, then bam!  Sturgeon on, and this guy was stripping line! We finally get him to the boat but the sturgeon sat right on the bottom of the river, 16 feet deep.  He would not come up for anything!  With the lift of the rod slowing, and a few spins of the reel is all we could do.  After a few minutes we had him at the surface.  Catching sturgeon in my opinion is like no other!  We finally landed this beautiful fish for a quick picture then back into the river. Not five minutes later, tap, tap, I holler at Justin to set the hook!  The fight is on!  We boated two beautiful sturgeon in ten minutes!  Unreal action! We managed to boat nine sturgeon in two days.  It was an absolute blast! And a great way to end a fantastic season on the North Saskatchewan River.  We cannot wait to get back on the open water in the spring.

Keep the shinny side down, and your hooks sharp.

Betty and a monster lake sturgeon!

Betty and a monster lake sturgeon!

Well, Betty wanted to catch a sturgeon for her birthday. So we headed out for a cool fall day on the North Saskatchewan River. We started catching walleye after walleye. We couldn't keep them off the hook! Which is a good thing if you are targeting walleye, but when you're constantly catching walleye it's tough to hook up with a sturgeon. So we moved around around until we were getting hit's by the elusive sturgeon. Then the game was on! Once we found them we were catching a sturgeon every 30 to 40 min. We managed to boat 6 sturgeon for the day. Which was a great birthday wish come true times six! Not to mention all the walleye we caught. It was a fantastic day! Six sturgeon, one was just shy of 60". And a handful of smaller ones. Fishing does not get any better in Alberta!
